Behind-The-Scenes: In Amish Country!

From surgeries to shoots with pro football players to music videos, the types of environments in which our content team has captured video and still elements truly runs the gamut. That’s the way we like things around here, especially when we get the opportunity to take a peek into a rarely-seen event or group of people: in this case, Ohio’s storied Amish population.

Vice President Clark Powell and Director of Photography Dave Love recently traveled to Holmes County, Ohio, one of the highest concentration of Amish in North America, to capture video and still photos for an upcoming Multimedia Content Package (MCP) for one of our clients, The Ohio State University Medical Center. We regularly produce these package stories and offer the finished product for use by mainstream and niche broadcast, Web and print media outlets. Our goal: to capture the Amish in their element to help us better tell a story about a recent study conducted by Ohio State cancer researchers claiming cancer rates in the Amish are considerably lower than in other communities.

We weren’t sure how our visit would go, seeing as the Amish prefer to live their lives in extreme privacy, shunning photography and publicity, but were incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to snap a few behind-the-scenes shots of the Amish life. Clark and Dave had a wonderful time conversing and learning from an Amish family, even enjoying some homemade cherry pie! They even gave us some tried-and-true health tips!
