Disasters like the massive earthquake that hit Haiti last week often leave us wondering what we can do to help. Since last Tuesday’s quake, we’ve been wondering how we can help - and we think we’ve found the perfect way.
Earlier this week, MediaSource was honored to welcome Columbus media celebrities and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman to our Grandview studios to tape a 30-second promo for “Columbus Hope for Haiti,” a drive-thru fundraiser held yesterday at the Ohio Historical Society. Among those in the house were Yolanda Harris (ABC6/Fox28), Colleen Marshall (NBC 4), Jerry Revish (10TV), Andyman (CD101), Misty Jordan (Power 107.5) and Warren Stevens (Magic 98.9) and we had a blast! When all was said and done, Columbus Hope For Haiti raised more than $142,000 for the American Red Cross Haiti relief fund!
We also had the awesome opportunity to help Columbus Hope for Haiti manage their social media presence, creating and posting dynamic content for the benefit on Facebook and Twitter. In just 48 hours MediaSource staff rallied more than 700 central Ohioans around the cause via Facebook and Twitter. MediaSource also created the #cbushope4haiti Twitter hashtag, which spread like wildfire among the Columbus social media community. (At last count more than 500 tweets had been posted with the #cbushope4haiti hashtag!)
We’re in awe of the way that folks here in Columbus and around the world are coming together to assist this country that so desperately needs our help right now and are thrilled that we could help. To find out how you can continue to help Haiti, please visit the American Red Cross.
