We’re all the new person at one point or another. However, I doubt any one else has joined the team with such a feeling of excitement while simultaneously experiencing such a strong sense of relief.
I came to MediaSource from a private wealth management firm. As much as I learned from the world of finance and investment, it was not a world I desired to stay in. Besides a newly discovered interest in data tracking and analytics at the firm, I knew I needed to move on and refocus my career by searching for employment that better fit my professional interests.
Thanks to growing up with parents who both worked in the world of television, I gained a healthy knowledge of local media and content writing. In 2011, I graduated from The Ohio State University with a double major in English and History and a minor in Professional Writing. During my time at OSU I worked as a contributor for a campus newspaper, UWeekly; acted as the webmaster for my English honors society, Sigma Tau Delta; and served as a member of the design team for the University’s Literature and Arts magazine, Mosaic. I was also lucky enough to have spent time interning with The Publishing Group by writing articles for magazines as well as writing internal communications and newsletters for The American Red Cross of Greater Columbus.
What all this should have told me, if I had been wise enough at the time to see it, was that I enjoyed a certain mixture of subject areas, a combination of interests. My experiences with journalism, branding, editing, and media production seemed like such a jumbled pile of ideas... until I came upon an opportunity at MediaSource.
I applied immediately and (thankfully) got the job. I knew this would be an incredible fit for my past experiences and current interests. The feeling of excitement has been growing every hour I’ve worked here. It has come from meeting my new teammates, learning more about my responsibilities, and gaining high expectations for MediaSource as a workplace and as a new world in which to build my ideal career. The relief came from finally finding a professional setting where I felt interested and capable of contributing.
In a way I had not imagined possible, I feel like I’ve found a new home.
