MediaSource Named a Finalist for Multiple Awards in PR Daily's 2014 Media Relations Awards
A media relations campaign using brand journalism and content marketing tactics has landed MediaSource as a 2014 PR Daily Media Relations Awards Finalist in the Grand Prize: Media Relations Campaign of the Year category.
MediaSource, nationally known as a health care brand journalism authority, was recognized for our work in promoting The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s health care innovations throughout the past year using a brand journalism PR approach.
“In the age of information overload, only the companies that truly understand how to tell stories and how to reach the media in today’s landscape will win at media relations,” said our President, Lisa Arledge Powell. “MediaSource specializes in getting national media coverage for our clients in a modern way using brand journalism. It’s an honor to be recognized for something we take pride in doing every day.”
Our brand journalism team used journalistic tactics to create client content which was amplified by using both earned media and company-owned media coverage. Our team of brand journalists also utilized our Multimedia Newsroom, which we developed as a way to deliver high-quality multimedia content directly to the news media, allowing for maximum buzz for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. All major television networks and other top tier news media utilize our Multimedia Newsroom to access and download content.
In addition, MediaSource ranked in an additional finalist category for Best Use of Video for our work promoting the innovative Neurobridge campaign.
In a medical and scientific first, neurosurgeons from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center implanted a device into the brain of a young man with the goal of helping him to regain mobility of his hands which he lost when his spinal cord was damaged in a diving accident. Working with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, researchers at Battelle developed cutting-edge technology that allowed 23-year old Ian Burkhart to become the first patient ever to move his paralyzed hand using his thoughts.
Our team worked with the hospital as well as Battelle, the company that developed the technology, for months in advance of the story release. The planning all led up to the amazing moment that the man moved his paralyzed hand for the first time. We captured this moment on video using multiple cameras while also coordinating cameras, reporters and producers from several national news outlets on the scene.
Our tactics for the project included a multimedia release featuring an expert from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Dr. Ali Rezai, a multimedia newsroom with elements available for journalists to download including high quality video, high resolution still images with customized photo captions, expert bios and animation. The team also worked with the hospital to handle national media coordination -- granting journalists as much access as possible, as well as short videos and stills used for company-owned media channels.
Our efforts reached a total audience of almost 800 million people in broadcast, online and print, with coverage on CBS This Morning, FOX News Network and FOX Business Network. The campaign resulted in $2.4 million in advertising value.
In this campaign, the social media audience totalled over eight million on Twitter and Facebook with tweets from multiple news outlets including @CBSThisMorning and @ABurnsPolitico. On The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center YouTube account, the efforts gained over 229,000 views to the medical center’s MediaSource-produced video.
MediaSource was selected one of just four finalists in this award category. Joined by MediaSource as finalists in the Media Relations Campaign of the Year category are CLS Strategies for Plaintiffs’ Sterring Committee for the NFL Concussion Litigation, Current Lifestyle Marketing for Glad Food Protection and National Geographic Channel for Killing Kennedy. Award winners will be announced in sometime in the next few weeks.
