Jotham Allwein, Spring Media Relations Intern

My MediaSource internship is an exceptional opportunity to conceptualize the strategies of one of the most innovative brand journalism companies in the country. Lisa Arledge Powell, president of MediaSource, gave a dynamic presentation explaining the philosophy and perspective of her business to my public relations class at Ohio Dominican University a few months ago. Needless to say I was floored by her presentation. In terms of marketing and public relations, Lisa provided a clear understanding of the most successful ways to display a brand in order to create the best reputation and buzz for that client locally, regionally and nationally.

The young, enthusiastic and open-minded team at MediaSource has been so great and I’m happy they have given me the opportunity to add my skills as an intern to their team. During my internship interview I was excited to hear that I would be working on all levels of the company, which included tasks ranging from writing press releases and blogs, attending meetings, working with video production, and interacting with clients.

Over the years, my career desires and dreams have taken many turns. After finishing high school, I served one full year of missionary work where I traveled with 11 other people all over the U.S. in a 12-passenger van. During this time I helped to coordinate and facilitate a variety of Catholic retreats. Following this year of service I entered the seminary where I studied philosophy for two rigorous years at the Pontifical College Josephinum. After the two years in the seminary I felt a desire to leave and enter the business world of public relations and marketing. Since then I have been studying at Ohio Dominican University and will graduate this May with a double major in Philosophy and Public Relations.

I am confident that this internship will give me the experience necessary to compete in any field of communication. MediaSource is setting new trends and providing the business world with new perspectives. I feel honored to work for a company with big thoughts.
