Social media has given our world the opportunity to easily connect, share and publish user-generated content! At the same time, it also creates challenges. We love this article from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania about some of the challenges that come with social media, specifically the idea of an invisible audience. Management Professor Nancy Rothbard describes the "invisible audience" as the people who follow us on social media but are invisible:

When we connect to people on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, there are some people who are really following and responding to us, and who are “liking” us or “favorite”-ing us. Those people are … interacting with us in a visible way. But there are often a whole host of people who are invisible, who are in the background watching what we’re saying or doing, but are not actively responding.
