This Throwback Thursday, we are taking it back to Clark Powell's, our Vice President, days as a live anchor on WCMH-TV!
His crew was one of the first in the nation to do a live shot inside a burning house. There had just been a tragic story in the news about a family who had died as the result of a grease fire in their kitchen. So, Clark coordinated with the Columbus Fire Department and set up a live segment about the dangers of using water on grease fires.
Clark lucked out and the Columbus Fire Department had an abandoned home they were planning to burn down for training purposes. They suited Clark up and let the cameras roll as his crew actually started the fire inside the house, by pouring water on a grease fire!
As the show ended, the flames consumed the house. Clark grabbed a mask and crawled under the smoke like, live on TV, to show why that strategy is so important in getting out of a fire alive.
