We have a great group of interns this fall! We love working with students to help them advance their professional career with hands-on work and new experiences.

Justin Jordan, a junior at Otterbein University, joins our brand journalism team as Content Production Intern this semester. We are so excited to have him! Learn about his love for storytelling in his first MediaSource blog.

When I went to college I didn’t know what to expect. I always thought I wanted to go to a big state school across the country. But as soon as I visited Otterbein University, which was only fifteen minutes away from my house, I knew that it would become my home. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, or even know what my passion was. I soon discovered the Communications Department, which gave me some amazing opportunities, like an internship with MediaSource.

Growing up I always had a fascination with telling stories. Whether it was retelling the heroic tales of the latest episode Power Rangers to my classmates or elaborate lies to my parents about stealing cookies from the cabinet, I loved telling stories. I spent my first year at Otterbein looking for ways to tell more and more stories. Eventually I took a video production class, and quickly knew exactly what I wanted to. With limited knowledge of even how to use a camera or edit, I went out to shoot tons of videos. Those crazy videos eventually became news packages and I learned to love the excitement of hearing other people’s stories.

I even changed my major to Journalism and Media Communications and fell in love with the excitement of a newsroom. Most of my days were spent walking across campus by myself with obscene amounts of video equipment and I was soon declared “That one guy with the video camera” amongst all of my classmates. I took advantage of everything my department had to offer by joining the Otterbein television staff. I eventually became the Co-Public Relations Director of Otterbein’s Dance Marathon, OTTERTHON and produced content showcasing the stories of children and their families during their experience at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Learning the struggles of various families and getting the chance to tell their stories was more than I could ever ask for.

So I asked myself, “Where could I possibly find an internship that could blend my love of producing content, journalism, as well as my love for public relations?” That’s when I found MediaSource, which is a perfect fit for what I want to do professionally. Everyday I’m learning something new, and I’m very excited to be apart apart of the team this fall.
