Studies show that since the early 90s, the number of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has skyrocketed more than 1,100 percent. ASD--a lifelong, complex developmental disability--affects over 3 million individuals in the US and millions worldwide.
Today is World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), a time to shine a light on autism as a growing global health crisis. It’s a day to increase national knowledge of the disease and spread information about the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. As part of WAAD, Autism Speaks celebrates its international Light it Up Blue Campaign, during which thousands of landmarks, communities, businesses and homes across the globe to unite to display blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals around the world affected by Autism.
Not long ago, we couldn’t answer the question of what causes autism, but today, we’re making huge strides. MediaSource is proud to represent some of the researchers, doctors and scientists who are shedding light on this disease and uncovering new answers everyday.
We’re spreading the word by going blue on social media.
What will you do to Light It Up Blue?
