It's the summer of hybrids at MediaSource. Our brand journalism team is so excited to welcome Jeanne Cantwell, a senior at Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication, as a Media Relations/Content Hybrid Intern. With her diverse background in marketing and journalism, we had to have her on our team.

Strolling through a career fair can be very daunting when you’re a freshman. The wide variety of booths, professionally-dressed students, and loud atmosphere was almost enough for me turn around and leave. Not to mention the instant regret I had for wearing casual flip flops that day. With just a printout of my resume in hand I approached the MediaSource booth. There I was greeted by the friendly faces of Colleen and Kevin. We talked for a little bit about Columbus and I nervously handed them my resume, which we all knew wasn’t going to cut it for the type of intern they wanted. Now with my junior year at Ohio University finished, I am thrilled to finally call myself a MediaSource intern.
Growing up I always assumed I would be a teacher. Since I can remember, I’ve loved working with kids and had great admiration for my teachers. Frankly, this career path seemed like a no brainer. It wasn’t until my Junior year of high school, that I was exposed to journalism. After being cut from the cheerleading squad, which honestly was a long time coming, I started filling my time with journalism courses and working on the yearbook. After experiencing the thrill of making little packages for our weekly news show or writing a bio on a student athlete, I was immediately hooked. Since then I’ve never regretted my decision to major in Journalism with a specialization in Marketing and Media.
Previous internship opportunities have helped me see what areas of journalism I enjoy. I’ve always used writing as a creative outlet, but over the past few years I’ve been fascinated by media-based content. This combination drew me to MediaSource initially and kept me coming back. The different aspects of storytelling fascinate me as well. I’m very excited to see the work MediaSource does with different health care clients. It’s about time I learn something about that industry, other than the many episodes of Grey’s Anatomy I’ve watched!
Other bits of information to know about me include that I was raised in Colorado but moved to Ohio when I was 10. I am the youngest of three, but only by 20 minutes! Getting to spend this summer in Columbus with my two brothers and my parents will be a nice change of pace from the small college town of Athens. Some things I enjoy include cooking, traveling, and watching Saturday Night Live.
I am thrilled to work with MediaSource this summer as the Media Relations/Content Hybrid Intern. This hybrid experience will be great for an indecisive person like me! I look forward to working with both teams and seeing what sort of projects I’ll be completing. Already meeting some of the employees at MediaSource has been such a positive experience. I have no doubt this will be a great summer!
