By Shreya Bhola, Media Relations Specialist
Originally from New Delhi, India, I recently moved to Columbus with my husband, who started a job as a research fellow at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
2016 was a milestone year for me in many respects. To start, I got married in a typical Big Fat Indian Wedding to my boyfriend of 7 years. He would soon have to depart for his fellowship in Columbus so, petrified by the thought of beginning a long-distance marriage, I decided I should come along. He agreed, and so did the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services!
In school, I pursued applied psychology with a specialization in consumer behavior. I’ve always the curious kind– wanting to know how and why people made decisions. This curiosity led me to work in marketing.
In my final year of college, I was fortunate enough to work on a project with advertising giant Saatchi & Saatchi in their New Delhi offices. There, I fell in love with advertising and communications. I spent the next year interning and freelancing until I decided it was time to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Relations & Corporate Communications at New York University.
As a part of my curriculum at NYU, I got an opportunity to work for a non-profit organization called Stupid Cancer. We helped them ideate, strategize and present ideas to promote the company’s new app, Instapeer. Researching the space, competition, audience, situation analysis, marketing strategies, tools, budgets and measurement in a real work setting a was a true learning opportunity. The experience was exhaustive and enriching.
My time in New York was an impeccable learning opportunity. This was the first time I’d lived thousands of miles away from home and family, and I grew as an individual. I learned the value of stretching my boundaries and taking more risks.
I’ve had the privilege of working for various multinational luxury & lifestyle brands like Swarovski, Estee Lauder, Sotheby’s, Gant, Nautica & Livon. As a girl, that list was a dream come true! But it’s time for a change.
Now, I’m ready to move away from luxury & lifestyle PR. Given my love of TV shows like House, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, as well as my doctor husband, healthcare PR seemed like a good fit. After I saw the client list for MediaSource, I knew to pursue this opportunity. After meeting with Lisa, Shannon, Rocky, Kevin & Drew. I was sure this is where I wanted to be!
I am a strong believer of positive energy and good vibes. That is exactly what I felt walking into the MediaSource office for the first time and meeting everyone.
I am confident I am in the right place and I’m excited for the opportunity to learn from our incredibly talented team!
