I recently stepped into the WSAZ newsroom in Huntington, WV equipped with milk, cookies and health content! As a former producer often saddled with tough deadlines and breaking news, I remember barely finding the time to eat. I figured these journalists would appreciate a little midday sugar rush. After all, it’s important to fuel up before a newscast!
As soon as a commercial rolled, I could hear the anchors announce that treats were in the building. With their mics hot, word quickly traveled to the producer and everyone in the newsroom. It was an instant conversation starter. Six of us started snapping selfies, snacking, laughing and getting to know each other - just like I used to do with my former news team.
Producers, reporters and assignment editors aren’t only hungry for food, though. On slow news days, finding quality, new content on the menu can be tough! That’s where MediaSource wants to help.
One of our main goals as media relations pros is to nourish the newscast and make the jobs of journalists easier. Sometimes that means providing an expert for an upcoming segment, like WSAZ teaming up with the American Dairy Association. Other times we offer multimedia content, including PKGs, soundbites and b-roll. Whatever the case may be, we’re constantly trying to serve up the best stories and accompanying resources for journalists to consume. I hope WSAZ got a taste of that last week. I had such an enjoyable visit!
