MediaSource is proud to announce that among the 15 awards we received at the 2017 Central Ohio PRSA PRism Awards was one of the top honors of the evening—Best of Show—for our work in partnership with UCLA Health. The PRism Awards are held each year to honor exceptional public relations work by agencies across central Ohio, and MediaSource is honored to take home this top accolade.
MediaSource received the Best of Show recognition for our work promoting UCLA Health’s groundbreaking Kidney Voucher program, an initiative allowing patients to donate a kidney to someone in need today in exchange for a voucher for a friend or loved one for the future. Through our team’s understanding of social content production and media outreach, we increased awareness for and participation in this innovative, life-changing new program.
Our team sought to produce effective, compelling video content sharing the personal experience of the program’s first participants, Howard Broadman and his grandson. Mr. Broadman donated a kidney so that he could get a “voucher” for his grandson, who is likely to need a kidney in the future. The video displaying the love between a grandfather and his grandson highlighted the human angle of the initiative, inspired empathy and attracted the attention of several viral social media outlets.
Our skilled media relations team successfully leveraged strong relationships with journalists at top viral sharing platforms, including Upworthy and Humankind, to secure placement on their pages. In addition, traditional outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, USA Today, NBC News Channel, FOX, WCBS-TV in New York and WGN-TV in Chicago shared the video on their digital properties.
In total, this campaign reached a Facebook audience of more than 1.4 million viewers, with over 22,674 reactions and 5,424 shares across the social media platform. Our overall media outreach campaign reached a total audience of 373 million and achieved an ad value of more than 37 times the client's investment.
To date, three new participants have enrolled in the program with two more in line to participate. According to Dr. Jeffrey Veale of UCLA Health, these three voucher donors triggered 25 transplants across the country. Additionally, 10 more health systems across the country followed UCLA in adopting this pay-it-forward program. Our team of savvy content creators and media relations professionals were successful in promoting awareness for and participation in the Kidney Voucher program.
